Vinod Bothale Group Director, Geoportal and WebGIS Services, National Remote Sensing Centre

Bio

VinodBothale has obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engg from VNIT, Nagpur and is gold medalist from IIT Roorkee during his Masters in Engg. He joined ISRO Satellite Center in 1986 and worked on design of control systems for IRS and INSAT satellites. Subsequently at Regional Remote Sensing Centre, Jodhpur, heimmenselycontributed in development of decision support systems using geo-spatial technologies. He was a regional coordinator for Village ResourceCentre (VRC) project and provided WebGISsolutions for natural resource management under VRC using open source software. On deputation to German Aerospace Centre-DLR, he worked on microwave SAR interferometry and contributed to improve the SAR processing chain at DLR, Germany. During 2009-2012, he was a Director, Maharashtra Remote Sensing Application Centre (MRSAC),Nagpur on deputation from ISRO. He operationalized MRSAC Geoportal for enabling e-governance in the state ofMaharashtra. He also brought reforms in administrative and technical areasin MRSAC, Nagpur. He has rich experience in Image processing of Remote Sensing data, Geospatial applications to natural Resources management and Software application development.He has been the designer and architect of Spatial Data Infrastructures(SDI) and Web Portals. He has beenfounder designer of Bhuvan Geoportal and water resources portal, India-WRIS. Presently at NRSC/ISRO, he is a Group Director, Geoportal& Web GIS services including Bhuvan and Deputy Project Director for ISRO Disaster Management Support (DMS) programme and National Database for Emergency Management (NDEM) projects. His present focus is to drive the Bhuvan for governance applications and make it the integral part of planning and development processes and also to strengthen it for citizen-centric services.
